We did it!!
Day 1
We were up bright and early by 4:30 and got ready to head downtown. When we arrived to drop off our gear, I was surprised to see my parents there with balloons for my whole team and there to cheer us on. It made me emotional right off the bat!! Then we dropped off our gear and headed over. My mom gave me the necklace that she had won at the chinese raffle at my spaghetti dinner at the opening ceremonies...once again emotions =) The opening ceremonies were great and Jen got to carry the grandmother flag too and we were all so proud of her!
And....we were off!! Sort of right off the bat my feet started bothering me which came as a suprise because I didn't have any issues like that in my training. I have high arches so they were a big issue all 3 days! We met up with Tina after Pit 1 and she walked with us the rest of the way pretty much(atleast with Jen). I walked up until the big hill after lunch(I couldn't do it with all the pain I was in), so I took my first sweep van after about 16 miles. I got my arches taped at Pit 4 and then went on my way. Only problem was that the tape was so tight and was rubbing and pulling at my feet. So I ended up having to catch a sweep van to Pit 5 and having it sort of cut off. I walked the last mile or so to camp (after ripping the rest of the tape off half way). So...because of the tape I ended up with blisters on the side of both of my feet - LOVELY!
We had a great time Friday at camp with relaxing, sitting around and chatting and then crashed.
Day 2
We got up bright and early again, ate our breakfast and then Jen and I were on our way. Right around between Pit 2 and Pit 3 my feet were hurting pretty bad along with shin splints to boot. Jen's knee was really bothering her too. We made it to Pit 3 and then we took the bus to lunch. Jen got checked out at lunch and ended up getting red carded(no longer able to walk) because of tendonitis or a pulled patela tendon. She took the bus back to camp to get checked out and I tried to carry on. I met up with my new walking buddy Katrina at Pit 4 and we walked/swept the remainder of the way. We had a blast though!
At camp we had a performace by Candy Coburn and then we had a dance party which was a blast!! I shook my booty ALOT =)
Day 3
We started off around 6:30 and had all of our gear and everything packed up and ready to go. Jen wasn't able to walk the last day so we met her at the finish line. Katrina and I started our day off in pain..but we were good. We headed on our way. We took the sweep vans a few times, but we walked about half the day. We actually finished the last 6 I believe. We had a good time but were getting a little delirious towards the end!
We got to the finish line and were able to finish it with Jen and then we got to sit and relax for a little while before walking into closing ceremonies.
Closing ceremonies were great! I was very emotional once I was able to see my family, especially my mom and my niece. I was so glad to be able to say that I did it!
I got to say goodbye to some of my friends and then we headed home. Vickie had decorated my house with streamers, signs and balloons to welcome me home. It was awesome! Jen and I were pretty much vegged out on the couches the rest of the night.
So after I have been on both sides of the 3day, I have decided that I enjoy the crew side of things more. So I am going to be going back to crewing next year and most likely co-captain for the camp services crew - WOOHOOO!!
I will keep you posted!
Thank you everyone for supporting and encouraging me!! Wouldn't have been able to do it without all of your support!

14 more days!!
We are down two walkers now, Shari is unable to walk due to conflicts with work and then Karen is unable to walk for medical reasons. So we are down to 4 strong walkers!! Me, Jen, Amber and Jaimie! We are ready!! (atleast I hope so!)
I have been walking more lately so that is preparing me more. I am going to do a 10 mile walk this weekend and another 10 mile walk next weekend before the walk. I am going to go on a canoe trip the sunday before the walk! I can't wait! I am gonna kayak for the first time I think!
All is good otherwise, Niko and Jazzy are great! I miss my Jasper everyday!
Thank you everyone for your continued support and encouragement!
GO MAMMIES!!! CHOOOCHOOOOO!

7 miles...more hills than I needed!
I had a great time this weekend! We went on a trail ride on Sunday and that was a good time!
We are only 3 weeks away from the walk!! I can't believe it! I am so ready to take the next step and walk the 60 miles with my wonderful friends and make that bold statement that I will not sit back and watch while millions of women suffer!
Thanks again for everyone's support.

No more 18 mile walk...bummer!
I seriously need to get to walking more during the week, I have just been so preoccupied with the whole Jasper situation and then Niko is keeping me quite busy. I would try and have him walk with me, but the little guy will only go a few houses down the street and then he pretty much gives up! I have gotten him a little farther a couple times but he doesn't go too far.
I can't believe that the walk is 5 weeks from today!!
My bestie Balee is in town this weekend for her high school reunion so I am so glad that I get to spend some time with her! Then next weekend I get to go see my other best friend Shari in Nashville for the 4th! I can't wait!!
Other than all of that things are going good! I miss Jasper everyday! Jasmine's personality has changed quite a bit now that Jasper is gone. Not sure if it is because she is now the only cat or the alpha cat in the house. Niko is definitely keeping her going and getting her running around which I haven't seen her do in a very long time!
Ok, I better get back to work!!
Have a great weekend!
Monday, June 14, 2010

This past weekend was a tough one. I found out on Saturday that my baby Jasper is diabetic. I have decided that I am going to put him down. I do not want to put him through all of the insulin shots(2-3 times a day) and glucose tests(pricking his ear) and vet appts that his diabetes will require. I would much rather have him go peacefully now than painfully later. He isn't himself lately and I just can't see him go through all of this.
It is going to be really hard after he is gone. I am going to miss his meows(although they always annoyed me in the morning) and him cuddling with me! He was such a cuddle buddy! He is going to be put down on Wednesday while I am at work. My wonderful father is going to take him for me. I just can't go through that right now. I don't want to remember that way! It is hard to imagine that when I get home on Wednesday he won't be there to greet me at the door!
I have a Niko to keep me occupied now, so I think he came into my life for a reason. Jazzy will probably be sad for a while, but I have to make sure that I keep her happy! She isn't really happy with Niko, but I think they will come to a mutual understanding at some point after she kicks his butt enough =)
So I am kinda in a funk and probably will be for a little while. He is my baby!
RIP Jasper Dean! So sorry to let you go!! 3/12/02 - 6/16/10
Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Well...I GOT A PUPPY!! His name is Niko Louie Griffis! He is a Yorkie Bichon. Only 4.25 lbs right now. He is a handful though! Lack of sleep is my new middle name! But he is totally worth every minute of it! Jasper seems to enjoy him being around, even though he is getting attacked. I thinks Jasmine is gradually warming up to him but they haven't made contact yet so that should be interesting when it does happen!
My training is slightly on hold until I can get him into a little bit of a routine. I am going to try and walk him every night to try and tucker him out. I am planning on walking with my cousin's wife tomorrow, so that will help. I also started taking a phenomenal abdominal class and will be taking a body sculpting class too so that will help get me into shape.
Well everything else is going ok, except for I think Jasper is sick, but he is going to be seen by the vet on Friday so hopefully that will go ok!
Back to work I go. Have a good one!

Back from vacation – want to go back!
So I got back last night from my graduation vacation to Louisville and Nashville. I had an awesome time! Just what I needed! I think I found my new favorite city – Louisville! I love the atmosphere and the people around there (not just the Perfecta – Me, Balee, Branten and Jen). We had a great time at the drag show at Connections on Friday night! It was so much fun! We had such a blast – Perfecta!!
Then it was onto Nashville with Shari! It was so great to relax and walk around Nashville. I got to see my old buddy Ty(her german shepard) and her horse Andrea(she tried to act like she didn’t remember me). And of course I got to meet the rest of her farm! She made me homemade noodles, meatballs and sauce – it was delicious!
So now back to the real world of work and all that crap! But now that school is over I can start my walking – that is if the weather will hold up!
We are done with our pampered chef fundraiser, waiting to see how we did on that. We have about $1,000 total to get between Shari and Jen and then all of our mammies will be at goal. WE CAN DO IT!! GO MAMMIES!
Well I am off to bed since I did not get much sleep over my weekend away!
Thanks for the support!!

13 miles down..and the Expo
Well this morning bright and early Jen and I did our 13 mile training walk. We tried a new thing and put duct tape on the bottom of our feet to prevent blisters! It worked!! All except for the blister that I got on the side of my big toe. It didn’t hurt or bother me until after I popped it and now it HURTS. I didn’t even know that I was getting it because my big toe wasn’t bothering me at all. It was just a little present that I got when I took my socks off at the expo!
We went to the expo and saw a few friends, got some info, got some freebies and I bought some more pressure relief inserts for my shoes for the walk. They seem to really help with my comfort walking the longer distances.
Our pampered chef fundraiser ends today, I hope we got a lot of orders. Balee is handling this fundraiser so hopefully I will know soon how it went. Jen is currently at $1978 and Shari is at $1630. Just a little bit more to go!
Jen is staying up for the night, since she has a 4 hour drive home and walking 13 miles kinda takes a told on your body. We plan on relaxing and ordering pizza! YUMMY!!
Well I have an 18 mile walk coming on 6/26. I should be good for that one. I know it is going to be a doozy but it will be fine!
Monday, May 17, 2010
Now I can focus on training!
So now that school is over, I have a few things going on in the next two weeks and then I can focus on my training. JenJen and I are going to be doing a 13 mile walk this weekend before the Expo, so that should be FUN!! I am sure that we are going to be just a little sore after that one! We are making a weekend out of it and I am looking forward to it! We will have a good time! I have a feeling we will end up at my house after the expo and not being able to move, but hey..atleast we will be laughing about it!
I am going to be visiting my two best friends next week in TN and KY! I can't wait! It is my graduation vacation! I need it at this point! It is only for a few days, but it will be well worth it and will be a blast!
Mammaritaville update: We still have two more walkers that we need to get to their goal. Shari and Jen are still needing some donations! We have 4 of our walkers ready to go! Just 2 more to go! I am still doing my fundraising at work to try and help them out. I am hoping to make some more of my chocolates tonight so I can sell them at work. I am thinking about doing some cookies too. Sweets seem to go over well with people here at work!
Everything else is falling into place, things are going well!
Thank you everyone again for all of their support!!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
On a different note...I am graduating in less than 2 weeks!! Can you believe it?!? I am so ready for this semester to be over and to focus on other things! I have my finals next week and then I walk to get my diploma on the 15th!! I can't wait!!
Working on my yard(driving me crazy with dandelions and my grass is growing like crazy!). I guess it is giving me a work out that is for sure! I spent over an hour yesterday using a whole container of Weed n Feed to kill the weeds in my yard, hopefully it works!
On to team news...this month we are having a Pampered Chef online fundraiser for team Mammaritaville! From 5/1-5/22! It is an online fundraiser, so you don't have to go to any parties and feel guilty to have a party yourself so your friend can have credit! Man it is a never ending cycle with those things! Here is the info:
If you are interested, you can view the catalog online and place an order to be shipped directly to you. Your support would be greatly appreciated!!
We have 3 walkers on our team that have not yet reached the minimum amount to walk and this is to help them reach their goal. As a team we have to raise $13,800 and each of the walkers have to raise $2,300 individually. So please show your support and place an order!
To view the catalog and place an order:
Go to : www.pamperedchef.biz/bethroberts
Click on "shop on-line" ( lower left corner)
You can put in 3 day Cancer Walk as the event or Balee Riley as the host.
May is also HELP WHIP CANCER MONTH And the special PINK items have a $1 donated to American Cancer Society.
If you have any questions, you can email Balee at balee17@yahoo.com. She is also willing to take the orders or help out in any way. We are willing to do what we can to make this work for our walkers!
Thank you all again for all of your support!!

8, 10, 13, 18 miles....can do it!!
I went to Vegas this past weekend and had a great time. I did ALOT of walking between the strip and the Grand Canyon. It was alot of walking crammed into 3 days.
This weekend is the 10 mile walk! I think I should be fine. I did 8 miles without any major problems, so I think 10 should be good. I don't think I will have my partner in crime for this one, so it might not be as much fun, but I will make it fun if anything!
Graduation in 3 weeks!!! Only two more weeks of lecture and then I am done!! CAN'T WAIT! Then I can focus on getting my training going!
If you are able to donate, please support our other walkers - Shari, Jen and Amber! We can do it!!
Thank you all for your continued support for our team!

What a great weekend!

Well the fundraiser was a hit!! I think we had over 150 people show! It was a great success and went off without a hitch! We had great baskets for auction and a great group there! I am so happy it went well and so proud of all of those who helped me plan and get everything going! Shari and Jen worked there butts off at the door and were great! Balee was the best and helped me so much with getting everything together! My parents were crucial in getting everything done too! I wouldn't have been able to do it without all of their help!
So I met my goal and was able to help out two of our walkers, Shari and Jen who helped me out immensely. We have 6 walkers and two of us have met our goals. Now we just have to get the other 4 there too! So if you are interested in donating, please donate to Shari, Jennifer, Karen or Amber! You can go to my team page on the 3 Day and donate to one of them. Any donation would be appreciated!!
Now to focusing on graduating in a month! And training of course! I have an 8 mile training walk that Jen Jen(Jennifer) and I are going to go to. Should be great! And now that the weather is better and the big fundraiser is over, I can concentrate a little more on the working out and training aspect of everything.
Thanks again to all of my supporters who made this weekend's event a success!!

Let the FUN begin!!
I did alot of running around after work yesterday and before/after class. Tonight is prepping my house for my houseguest for tomorrow night. Not that there is that much to do, but gotta do my basic cleaning.
I haven't really had time this week to do any training walks, but I will be getting them in hopefully after this week. I have an 8 mile official training kick off walk next weekend, so that should be fun! Then two weeks from today..I WILL BE IN VEGAS BABY!! I can't wait, should be a blast! My cousin Jill is getting married in Vegas!
So much to do and so little time! Atleast after I graduate (need I mention that will be 5/15!!!) I will have more time to do what I have to do.
I hope to see lots of family, friends and new friends on Saturday! It will be a great event!
Thanks to all my supporters!!

Is it really April already?!?!
I can't believe I have one week until the spaghetti dinner!! So much to do before then, but I have a great support system that has been helping me through the process! Wouldn't have been able to do it without my bestie Balee and my wonderful mother!
So far I have about 130 people for the spaghetti dinner, so it should be a great event!! I can't wait!! It has been alot of preparation, but will all be worth it in the end!!
Training has been going better, I was able to get in a few walks when I was on spring break. And now that we have some nicer weather I can get some walks in when I am not working and going to class! I just can't walk after class because it is too late by the time I get home. So until 5/15, my walking is going to have to stick to Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Then after that, I can dedicate my time to training. Thank god for nicer weather too! It is going to be in the upper 70s today!! WOOHOO!!
I saw the HUG LADY at Pat Catan's last night and it totally brightened my week! I was having a bad week up until that point and a hug from her made it all go away! I can't wait for my hugs after 20 miles each day!!
Mammaritaville has grown even more since the last post. As of right now we have:
Crew - Balee, Leslie, Gina, Andrea, Terri, Kim, Jeff
Walkers - Me, Shari, Jennifer, Amber, Jaimie, Karen
We have a great team!!! I can't wait for our team to get together and meet each other too since we are all scattered around.
Mom #2 and my dad are doing good! So things are pretty calm on the home front for me right now as far as that. Besides work, school, fundraising and attempting to have somewhat of a social life!
Hope everyone has a wonderful easter!!!
Talk to you all soon! Thanks again for all of the support and encouragement!!

Happy St. Patty's Day and Update
Team Update: Well we have another new walker on the team - Karen Silver and a new crew member - Leslie Gogan! We have a good size team going and we are only going to be growing more! But mainly crew members I do believe, maybe one more walker. Who would have thought when Balee and I started the team(she started and I joined in) that we would have so many people to join us?! This is great! I can't wait for the walk!
Fundraising Update: Things are really coming along for the Spaghetti Dinner. I am working on selling the tickets and getting a good head count to give Stadium Grill. The chinese auction prizes are racking up and I can't wait to see everything put together. So far I think we are going to have a pretty good turn out! I hope the list keeps growing! Still working on the team fundraiser "Bowling for Boobs", hopefully will have a date soon some time in June.
Training Update: I have started getting my longer walks in. I have done a few 6 milers in the past week. One type of sock is already down! But the second type went pretty well yesterday. I think I am going to look for some gel inserts to see if those make the walk a little more comfortable. My clown shoes(cuz they are bigger than my real size to make sure that my feet have room) are working out well so far. I loosened the laces a little about half way last night and I think that helped. No hip pain this time which was better(I had to fix my stride because of overstriding). This week is spring break so I am going to be able to get more walking in. Once I go back to class next week, it all depends on when it starts getting dark as to how far I can walk. Since I mainly walk by myself I am trying to do it during the daylight for safety reasons of course.
Life in General Update: Things are calming down for me finally. My dad is doing much better, not out of the woods but much better than he was a month ago! Mom #2 is doing good too considering. I got to see her a few weekends ago which was the first time since she started the chemo. It was good to see her and give her a big hug!
I got to get away this past weekend to go see my bestie Balee in KY and had a great time!! It was so nice to just get away even if it was just for Saturday/Sunday! I am going on a casino bus trip next week for a FAB(Team For-A-Breast) fundraiser for two of their wonderful walkers, my friends Tina and Cat! I am looking forward to that bus ride!
Until next time! Live, Laugh(alot) and Walk!

Almost there!
I am back on track with trying to organize my "Bowling for Boobs" team fundraising event. Everything was pretty put on hold with the whole situation with my dad, but not I am trying to get back on track. I will keep everyone posted on any updates for the bowling event.
Our team has a new team member - Jeff Evilsizer - he is our newest crew member! As of right now we have 6 walkers: Me, Shari, Amber, Jaimie, Gina and Jen! Keep up the good work fundraising girls! Once I meet my goal then my fundraising efforts will go towards helping the rest of our walkers! We can do it!!!
Training is well not getting kick started as well as I am hoping. I am hoping now the weather is breaking that I can maybe get a walk in tonight, but only time will tell with that one.
Thanks to everyone for their support and for supporting Team Mammaritaville with our efforts to fight breast cancer!!
Monday, February 22, 2010
Slow and steady!
The work fundraising(chocolates, rings and bracelets) was put on hold for a few days(with my dad and all that) but that is back on track! I think I am going to end up having to order more rings and bracelets to sell, cuz they are selling pretty good! Especially since one of my friends from work is bringing them to sell to her bowling league..they love it! Thanks Mel!
Training...well, that is another story =) I haven't really been able to get on track with doing that lately, not even working out at home. I haven't done my work out video in probably a month, but all of the stress has helped me lose a pound or two. I have been doin alot of walking between work, the hospital and school though, so atleast I have that goin. I drove around yesterday trying to measure out my 6 mile walk, not so bad after all. I think I might start doin it once more of the sidewalks are cleared - you know Ohio drivers!
Mom #2 is doing good! Treatment 2 has gone better than treatment 1. I was a little worried after treatment 1, but she seems to be handling it a little better this time around. It is still going to be a very long couple months, that's for sure!
We have a new walker on our team too..Shari DeMarco-Euren!! She is one of my close friends and I am so excited that she is going to be walking with me! I can't wait! Our team is growing! We now have 10 people! We have a few more potentials too! I am so pumped for the walk and to get our team all together since we are spread out over the east coast.
Okay, back to work I go! Thank you everyone for your support over the past couple weeks with my dad and also for your support with the walk!
Love to all!

What a week!
Sorry it has been a while!! My 3Day adventures have been put on hold for the past week, and pretty much everything has too except worrying about my dad. He went in for surgery on 2/5 and was supposed to only be in for 4-5 days, well he is still in there and is in the ICU. He had several complications, ended up on a ventilator for 2 days but is now improving. He is thankfully breathing on his own now. He has his sense of humor and little attitude back too!
It has been a very emotional week, I haven't broken down that many times in a long long time. And I did it cigarette-free too! I quit two years ago on 2/25/08 and haven't had one since, but this week was my first real big stressor and I did good! So did my mom! I am so proud of her!
We are hoping that he is going to be moved out of the ICU today, but he probably won't be out of the hospital till the end of this week. They have to get food and all that jazz reintroduced to him since he hasn't eaten in 5 days.
This coming weekend(2/20) I am going to my first Training Kick-Off Walk in Strongsville. I am meeting up with one of our new team members who is walking with me, my friend Jennifer Beal. And my bestie Balee is coming in town this coming weekend too! And the RODEO!! Sooooo it will hopefully be a good weekend, hoping my dad will be home and doing well and I will have a great weekend with friends!
Mom#2 is doing much better! She had a rough week or so after her first treatment, which she has her next one this week, so hoping it goes a little smoother now that she knows what to expect.
OH..Happy Valentine's Day too! Just another hallmark holiday against single people I think, so I am going to a Bah Humbug dinner today with some of my girlfriends! Gotta enjoy it somehow, right?
Thank you to all of my family and friends for their support over this past week - it means alot!!

A team update, we have 8 people and counting for our team. Our mammies are doing great with their fundraising! Keep up the good work girls!!
Ok, keep your support comin and keep watchin for the updates!! Will blog again soon!

Please help me reach my goal..
Every penny counts!!!
Go team Mammaritaville!
Well, an update on mom #2, she is going thru the process of getting all of her pre-chemo work up. And then she will start her chemo I am sure not looking forward to the next year of watching her go thru it. But I am going to be there as much as I can for her and my best friend. It is not going to be easy but I know she is a very strong woman!
Fundraising update - I am at about $1000 right now, so I am getting there. I am planning a few fundraisers - bowling for boobs, a spaghetti dinner and a paintball fundraiser. I am working on nailing done locations and dates, which is just a little stressful when you can't get anything nailed down! But it will all work out in the end I hope!
Training update - I am doing my work out video - 30 day shred by Jillian from Biggest Loser and she is kickin my butt..well she really kicked my butt the first time I did it. I am gonna be one hot mama for the walk!(we will see about that one!) I just have to keep up with doing it 3 times a week(that is my plan). I have been doing okay for the last couple weeks. Pretty soon I am going to have to get in my 6 mile training walks 3 days a week too, and school and work - I got time, right? HA!
Well I am going to try and post more updates more often and get more followers..so let's see how this all goes!Wish me luck and if you have any pointers..let me know!!
